“I chose the Language and Culture program for my CEGEP degree as I have always been fascinated with learning new languages, but also with experiencing new cultures. My experience in the program has been very positive. I found that learning two foreign languages simultaneously was challenging, but quite motivating. The variety of classes offered all entail unique learning experiences such as field trips to Montreal, as well as the possibility to explore various cultural practices through film, literature and visual art.

The department’s faculty members are absolutely amazing and are great resources to reassure new students. They are actively involved in their students’ success, and are passionate about both teaching and their material. In other words, the program itself was captivating, but our professors have made a notable difference. If you are interested in foreign languages and cultures, I absolutely believe that it may be an option that should be considered!

Of course I would recommend the Language and Culture program! I may be a little bit biased, but I truly believe that it is one of Champlain’s hidden gems.”

“Reflecting on my time in the program, I can say I simply adored it. There is a strong sense of community between the students. I got to know everyone very well and made friends I still see often today. The teachers were also very present either to help or simply chat. I would definitely recommend the program if you are eager to learn new languages and the culture from which they evolved. Your teachers will accompany you along your studies, enriching your learning and forging your personality not only as a student but as an open-minded individual too.”

“I chose Champlain’s Language and Culture program because it was one of the few programs that offered both Spanish and Italian courses. After visiting during the Open House, I had the chance to meet with some of the professors and felt like I belonged right away.

The professors’ care and passion for their courses give life to the program as students are encouraged to explore their own interests. The Research Methodologies course was incredibly helpful to understand how to conduct proper academic research and structure essays, which was indispensable to both my undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Learning Italian at Champlain allowed me to work in Italy for a three-month contract during my BA, and learning Spanish allowed me to jump straight to Latin American literature courses instead of waiting a year or two to complete language courses.

This program was a valuable (and fun!) way of being prepared for my university career, and I will forever cherish my time spent at Champlain with the Language and Culture community.”
